You Cannot Hurt Her… She’s Already Broken (Lyrics)

Broken is the 5th track on the record but I had recorded PlugRut (the 7th) before… just because we wanted to put out a 3 song EP and wanted to include PlugRut on it.

As the title of the track of the record… you know it is gonna be big. When I first met Schrecker, Zasta and Jon at Moonbabe Studio… Schrecker asked me what I had already heard. He presses play on the console and I listened to what seemed to be a frickin’ 12 minute song. A mammoth epic piece of music over 7 minutes long with numerous parts, textures and moods.

For the recording of the album I had been using my orange sunburst 5 string Music Man bass but I had just bought a new bitch… same thing as the other one except for the color. This one was cherry red with a black pickguard. The sound was much bigger, rounder and tighter with this bass because I had it set up with a thicker gauge of strings and wow… what a difference! When The “Wrath” Began (Wrong, But In Throes Lyrics)

My journey into the realm of “The Gods” began with this song. I was looking for a project that was serious. I was in a project that was, when looking back on it, a total joke. My relationship with the word serious goes a little further than… “wow that was a great tasting beer… I think I will have another… seriously…”. The people I was dealing with were still wet behind the ears and seemed to have serious problems with commitment. I bet they couldn’t even choose between single or double-ply toilet paper… If the single ply doesn’t work and it gets messy just fucking fold and use more already… Dude quit wasting my time! Anyways… I will not get into messy toilets, that is not my thing… seriously.

So yeah, what the fuck was I talking about? Oh yeah, so I was online looking for a project that would occupy some spare time that I had because the band I was in was infantile and going nowhere. I was not looking to leave my current project necessarily, the rare occasions we did work together were fun. I just wanted to move forward and experience more because my current project was crawling at the rate of a quadraplegic turtle.

I found a posting online for a “serious band looking for a bass player”… oh no… it is that word again… serious. The posting said “we have the studio, the marketing plan and are ready to go when YOU are.” I dug that… I am not a big fan of being pushed into shit I am not ready for… I got enough issues. The Wires Are Crossed And Nothing Is Working! (Lobotomatronic Lyrics)

Song 3 Lobotomatronic.

Talk about getting out of your comfort zone.

Generally speaking albums are recorded as follows : drums, bass, rhythm guitar, then lead guitars and vocals or vice vera all depending. That is what I had been used to. For this album the drums and the rhythm guitars were already more than half way finished… same with vocals. When I was laying down the bass… I could not play too tight with Zasta because the rhythm guitar would sound off… and same situation if I played too tight with the guitar. We had to find the sweet spot… the happy medium, you know… the piece of skin between the pussy and the asshole to just rest your chin and… uhhhhh …. You know what I mean.

Schrecker would always send me the guitar and drums tracks for each song so I could work on them. Even with just 1 guitar and drums this thing was huge. Holy-lick this thing is a monster!!! Sort of like a sweaty (and slutty) chick Frankenstein all pieced together. It totally did not make sense to me at first… all kinds of odd tempos and shit. I was out of breath after the first 3 listens. Then I got used to it… ok not really but at least it started to make sense… well kinda.

Got a huge distorted bass sound for a short section in the beginning… I never really used much distortion on bass… works very well for that section. Totally chaotic parts in this song… one of the heaviest on the record.

Done… now I feel all sweaty (and slutty). [Read more →]

MAN In A Car Or “MANIAC” (Lyrics)

On to the second track of the record. Much more straight forward than SKEEVED. We got a nice gritty bass sound for this one… I have since changed amps because the Mesa Boogie was really really unreliable in live situations, and with my temper, that is not a good thing.

I remember when I went to the first audition and Schrecker told Jon to play the main riff in MANIAC and I always wondered when the hell I was going to record that song. If you caught on already, you know that the capital letters in the title MAN In A Car spell out MANIAC. Now does this have anything to do with the song… or about the person that wrote the lyrics??? Hmmm I wonder. [Read more →]

What The Hell Does “SKEEVED” Mean?

What the hell does “SKEEVED” mean?

Taken from the Urban Dictionary:

  1. Grossed out, disgusted, to get a sketchy feeling about a situation. Originates from the Italian word “schifo” which means disgust.
  2. To be freaked out, weirded out, revolted by or generally turned-off by something or someone

What an experience it was for me to get into a new band and record again. I show up on a Friday afternoon and meet these guys that are looking for a bass player and the next thing I know it, on the following Tuesday afternoon I am starting work at Moonbabe Studio on this crazy song. I (and I believe the rest of the guys) learned & recorded the tracks chronologically as they appear on the record. Christ I thought I was never gonna finish this thing! So many little fills and the damn chorus is different every time. When we were first playing this baby in rehearsal, I could tell that Schrecker and Jon could not remember the exact order of the parts in the chorus sections either.

I doubt any of us can get it out of our head’s now. Every song has a picture to represent it on the record cover poster that is included when you buy the CD. The picture that represents this song is of a girl with a gun to her head on her knees in front of a guy (me) with his pants down. Now doesn’t that seem “skeevy”? [Read more →]
